DEDIPAC KH is the first pilot action to contribute to the Determinants of DIet and Physical Activity pillar of the Strategic Research Agenda (SRA) of the JPI HDHL. The objective as formulated in this SRA is "to understand the determinants, at both the individual and group levels, regarding dietary, physical activity and sedentary behaviours using a broad multidisciplinary approach, including biological, ecological, psychological, sociological, economic and other socio-economic perspectives, and their interrelationships and to translate this knowledge into a more effective promotion of a healthy diet and physical activity." This first joint action of JPI HDHL is to contribute to that overall SRA objective, and aims to do so by preparing, developing and realizing a knowledge hub –i.e. a network and infrastructure – for future monitoring, research and translation of research to policy and practice regarding determinants of dietary, physical activity and sedentary behaviours.
All 46 participating research groups from 12 countries (Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Norway, Poland, Spain, The Netherlands and The United Kingdom) worked together to submit one proposal which includes 3 thematic areas.
1. Data Assessment and Harmonization: assessment and harmonisation of methods for future research, monitoring and evaluation of interventions
2. Analysis of Determinants: determinants of dietary behaviour, physical activity and sedentary behaviour across the life course and in vulnerable groups
3. Interventions and Policies: evaluation and benchmarking of public health and policy interventions aimed at improving dietary, physical activity and sedentary behaviours across the life course.
The overall concept and work programme started in December 2013 for 3 years and will be funded with approx. 12 millions €. The DEDIPAC KH management will be under the responsibility of a Hub coordination team: Johannes Brug (NL) was elected as Hub coordinator, Paul Finglas (UK) and Ute Noethlings (DE) will be his deputies. In addition, leaders and deputies for each of the thematic areas were also nominated.
On 28th March 2014 the JPI HDHL officially presented the DEDIPAC KH at its second Conference held in Brussels (BE); the DEDIPAC kick off meeting was held at the VU University in Amsterdam (NL) on May 15-16th 2014.
