Meeting the globally growing demand for high-quality, protein-rich foods, that satisfy the need of a growing world population while considering environmental sustainability, adapted land-use practices and food security is a unique challenge. Food for the Future: Accelerating the Protein Transition is a one-day conference that will bring together stakeholders from across the food supply chain to showcase the final results of PROTEIN2FOOD, discuss the opportunities and barriers of transitioning to more plant-based foods and the policy tools that are required.
PROTEIN2FOOD is a HORIZON 2020 research project that started in 2015 to develop high-quality food protein from multi-purpose seed crops and grain legumes, through optimized, sustainable production and processing methods. The PROTEIN2FOOD research consortium consists of 19 partner institutions from 13 countries.
The conference will take place on 29th January 2020 in Brussels. The PROTEIN2FOOD pitch session will highlight and showcase important findings, ingredients and products, followed by an interactive Q&A with the audience. Attendees will get a “taste” of PROTEIN2FOOD during the plant-based lunch. An interactive panel session on PROTEIN2FOOD results, key challenges for accelerating the protein transition and policy priorities from six stakeholders representing the food value chain will follow in the afternoon.
