Outcomes JPI HDHL 2016 co-funded call 'Biomarkers for Nutrition and Health'

Outcomes ERS-HDHL cofunded call

ERA-HDHL was the first ERA-NET Cofund of the JPI HDHL and launched its first co-funded call in 2016: Biomarkers for Nutrition and Health (BioNH). In January 2022, ERA-HDHL ended and a lot of interesting results were published, including from the co-funded call BioNH in which 13 different countries and the European Commission (EC) funded a total of 12 research projects.

The aim of the call was to focus on the identification and validation of biomarkers that are modulated by diet and that indicate a change in health status and/or the risk of developing diet-related diseases. The outcomes of the different projects are visualised on a factsheet on the BioNH webpage. During the runtime of the co-funded call different disciplines were combined, jobs were created, training activities were provided, and new databases were created. In addition, the funded projects established new collaborations within the biomarker network, with other JPI HDHL projects and/or other projects within the Horizon2020 Framework Programme. These collaborations resulted in the publication of 115 scientific publications of which 65% were published with at least one researcher outside the ERA-HDHL consortia.

Furthermore, all consortia contributed to improve methodologies and/or to elaborate new methods, protocols or tools. Moreover, 4 consortia declared that their project will lead to establishing new start-ups and/or product development. Although the scientific community was the main target group, 7 coordinators reported that their results were communicated to a broader public as well, such as consumers, patients and/or policy makers.
