Five transnational research consortia including 26 research groups from 9 European countries have been recommended for funding under the umbrella of the JPI HDHL Joint Call "Nutrition and Cognitive Function". Projects will focus on a broad range of research questions, such as the interactions between diet, cognition and stress, the relation between dietary bioactives and cognitive ageing, or the influence of specific nutritional components on brain plasticity and development. A wide range of research approaches will be covered, from basic aspects to pre-clinical and clinical approaches, and a great variety of methods will be employed, such as neurochemical analyses, brain imaging, metabolomics, (epi-)genetics, epidemiological work or dietary interventions.
Researchers from Austria, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland and the United Kingdom will closely collaborate in these networks. The projects were reviewed by an international expert panel and selected from 39 applications. 10 funding organisations are joining forces to financially support the projects with an envisaged budget of about 5.7 M€.
