JPI HDHL welcomes Martijntje Bakker as new chair

Martijntje Bakker has been elected as the new chair of the JPI HDHL at the Management Board meeting in February 2019. She has been member of the JPI HDHL MB for the Netherlands since 2012 and took up the role of vice chair in 2013. She takes over from Carlos Martinez Riera, who unfortunately had to step down as chair due to a change of job. Martijntje Bakker will build on her many years of experience with JPI’s and mission orientated research funding to guide the JPI HDHL through the coming time. Read More...

New call for countries to run a FIT4FOOD2030 Policy Lab

Countries can now join FIT4FOOD2030 by running a policy lab. In the policy labs, European countries and regions aim to maximise the impact of Research and Innovation on future-proofing their food system. We are offering three to five more countries or regions this exciting possibility. Countries are asked to indicate their interest by February 18. Questionnaire on Microbiome R&I strategies and funding

The microbiome has become of interest in all parts of the food system, and there are overlapping research interests all over the world. JPI HDHL is involved through HDHL INTIMIC in the H2020 project MicrobiomeSupport, which maps R&I strategies on the microbiome and funding on a regional, national and international level. Transformation of the global food system is urgently needed as more than 3 billion people are under- or overnourished, and food production is exceeding planetary boundaries – driving climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution. To meet this challenge, dietary changes must be combined with improved food production and reduced food waste. Moving to this new dietary pattern will require global consumption of foods such as red meat and sugar to decrease by about 50%, while consumption of nuts, fruits, vegetables, and legumes must double.
