HDHL welcomes new SAB members
John Mathers (Nottingham University) has been elected as new chair of the Scientific Advisory Board. John joined the board in 2019, was vice chair since 2020 and has been very active for HDHL already (For example, keynote speaker at the 6th HDHL conference and Interview at 10 years HDHL). Karsten Koehler (Technical University of Munich) and Mark Buecking (Fraunhofer Institute for Molecular Biology and Applied Ecology) are new vice chairs of the JPI.
HDHL also welcomes five new members:
- In Area 1, Janas Harrington (University College Cork) and Wendy van Lippevelde (Ghent University) have joined the board. Janas’ major expertise lies in Public Health Nutrition, Food Policy Research, and Food Environments. Wendy’s research focusses on Health Promotion, Public Health Nutrition, Consumer Behaviour, and Health Inequalities.
- Area 2 will from now on be supported by Tiny van Boekel (Wageningen University & Research) and Peter Wilde (Quadram Institute Bioscience, Norwich). Tiny is an expert for food quality, food security, food safety, food processing, and kinetic modelling. Peter’s research interests lie in the link between processing, food structure, nutrient bioaccessibility and health impact.
- Area 3 will be completed by Ellen Blaak (Maastricht University Medical Centre). Ellen’s research interests lie in obesity, insulin resistance, nutrition and integrative metabolism, and gut microbiome.
We are very happy to have the new members on board and are looking forward to working with them.
New members joining always also means saying goodbye to members who have supported HDHL for many years. This time, the long-standing chair of HDHL, Edith Feskens, Wageningen University has left the HDHL. Edith has been part of the HDHL SAB for the almost eight years, four of them as chair. She supported and represented the JPI in many different ways at internal and public events (panel speaker at the 6thHDHL conference, Interview at 10 years HDHL, and much more) and gave important impulses to innovate and bolster the position of research within the Food & Health domain. We would like to thank her very much once again for everything! Apart from Edith, for the following SAB members the term in the SAB has also ended:
- Area 1: Emmanuelle Kesse-Guyot, National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA) and Carl Lachat, Ghent University
- Area 2: Eva Falch, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and Kaisa Poutanen, VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland.
HDHL would like to warmly thank the leaving SAB members for their support over many years. We wish them all the best for the future!
