HDHL launches its renewed vision and mission: moving forward with purpose

Last changed:

After an intensive and collaborative process involving the Management Board, Advisory Board, and our wider network, HDHL is proud to launch its renewed vision, mission, and visual identity . This marks an important moment in our evolution as a European initiative working at the intersection of food, nutrition, and health.

The process so far

Over the past year, HDHL has engaged its members in multiple workshops, discussions, and iterative consultations to collectively shape the direction of our work. These conversations brought together diverse expertise—from policy to research, from national funders to European stakeholders—ensuring that our strategy reflects both current needs and future ambitions.

This renewal also coincides with the appointment of HDHL’s new chairs, Chair Eileen Gibney and Vice-Chair Edith Feskens, whose perspectives and leadership will guide the initiative into its next chapter. You can read more about their vision for HDHL in our recent interviews.

HDHL's new strategy

Our updated vision—“healthy diets and healthy lives on a healthy planet, for all”—captures HDHL’s commitment to contributing to a future where every person has access to nutritious and sustainable food.

Our mission focuses on addressing societal challenges at the intersection of food, nutrition and health by generating new evidence, strengthening collaboration, and mobilising knowledge so that it is applied in policy and practice.

Together, the vision, mission, and objectives provide strong and coherent pillars around which we base our work: HDHL as a trusted knowledge broker, funder, and convener. Read about the new strategy here.

A refreshed visual identity

Alongside the strategic update, HDHL is launching a refreshed visual identity across all communication channels, including the website, and social media.

The new visual identity reflects who HDHL is today: collaborative, forward-looking and deeply committed to supporting healthier diets and healthier lives on a healthy planet.

It aligns with our strengthened strategic positioning and reinforces our ambitions to be a key partner in shaping Europe’s food and health research landscape.

Looking ahead

The launch of our renewed strategy and identity marks the beginning of an exciting next phase. HDHL will continue strengthening alignment across the European food and health research landscape—including through our work within the CSA HDHL Food4Health—and we look forward to deepening collaboration with the growing community around us.

In the coming year, the HDHL Conference in April 2026 will offer an important opportunity to bring this community together, share insights, and look collectively towards the future of food, nutrition and health research in Europe.

With a shared vision, an updated mission, new leadership, and a modernised identity, HDHL is ready to move forward with purpose. We look ahead with confidence and excitement as we continue working towards healthy diets and healthy lives on a healthy planet, for all.
